INTRODUCTION TO DRIFT

What is DRIFT?

  • Process and computer program for capturing the links between river flow and ecosystem functioning

  • Time-series based assessment

  • Uses a data, knowledge and experience to predict how the river ecosystem will change

  • Informs the social assessment of potential impacts on river users

Based on external hydrology, hydraulic and sediment modelling of development plans; and water quality modelling if available:

  • Minimum requirement for hydrological data

  • Will accept and integrate ANY modelled data

  • Where models are not available, such as for geomorphology, vegetation, fish abundance, DRIFT will create time-series of ecosystem responses
